The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has initiated action against 15 companies on the charge of evading tax by using fake VAT bills worth Rs 800 million. The IRD has slapped fines totalling Rs 640 million on these companies which include the country’s leading automobile dealer, electronics company and construction firm.
